The Future Johnson's Division

Maj. Gen. Jackson would be mortally wounded at Chancellorsville in May 1863, but most of the infantry regiments in the Valley District would continue to fight together in Johnson's Division, Ewell's Corps. These would include all of the "Stonewall" (Garnett's) Brigade regiments, and all of the other Virginia regiments in the Valley District Order of Battle.

There were some transfers as a result of the Romney Campaign's  "Loring - Jackson Incident."  Regiments that did not go on to serve in Johnson's Division were:

  • The Virginia Militia "Brigades" (Disbanded)
  • The 1st Virginia Battalion (Assigned to General Headquarters after Fredericksburg)
  • 1st Tennessee, Maney's Regiment (Assigned to Western Theatre and fought in Polk's Corps)
  • 1st Georgia (Assigned to Longstreet's Corps and then the Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The regiment fought at Olustee.)
  • 7th and 14th Tennessee (became part of Archer's Brigade, Heth's Division, Hill's Corps)
  • 3rd Arkansas (Assigned to Hood's Texas Brigade)
Given that 12 of the regiments that appear in the simulation's order of battle went on to be part of Johnson's Division as it attacked Culp's Hill in July 1863, the order of the battle represents the beginning or a strong military organization.
