Battle! The supply problem (Part I)

A battle can involve a lot of sitting around in position, waiting for attack orders, or waiting to respond to an enemy attack.  During THE WINTER WAR simulation, a battle could potentially take place over several days if neither side withdrawals.  This would present a supply problem for the armies.

Each day that the opposing sides sit on the same battlefield, they are unable to forage to replace rations. Men are issued three day's worth of rations. Once those rations are finished, it has a significant effect on the men (see Out of Supply). Romney, for example, is a significant distance from the base of supply for each army. Commissary trains would have to be brought up to support an extended battle. If one side's men have eaten and the other side's are out of supply, the logistics factor could be a game changer on the battlefield....
