Battle! Romney Day 2 - 3:15 p.m. Confederate Assault Begins

Orders are in from both players. They will not be able to modify orders until the end of this turn.

A senior Confederate Officer near the Hook farm had observed the Federal position west of the Mileson  farm and south of Sulphur Spring Run. The covered bridge over the South Branch of the Potomac is visible behind their position.
Confederates arrived at the Hook farm and deployed just north of Sulphur Spring Run and deployed two brigades of infantry in line supported by artillery. The artillery opened fire on the Federals, who returned fire while their infantry took cover.

As opposing batteries fired on each other, a Federal cavalry unit in the woods east of Mileson opened fire on Confederate infantry advancing from the east. After a very brief exchange at 3:15 p.m., the cavalry retreated and Confederate infantry emerged from the woods and began advancing towards the Federal line.

With the appearance of the Confederate brigade east of Mileson, the Confederates across Sulphur Spring Run stepped off and began advancing towards the Federal line, about 250 - 300 yards to their front.

The Confederates outnumber the five Federal regiments, but the Union line is supported by 12 guns with two-gun sections interspersed between regiments and ready to open with canister as the infantry engages. With the opening infantry rounds fired at 3:15 p.m., the current turn will end at 3:30 p.m.
