Union Cavalry Repulsed at T. Ward Farm - Day 1 - 5:00 - 5:20 p.m.

Captain Nathan Menken's Co. "C," 1st Ohio Volunteer Cavalry leaves the D. Miller Farm and begins to advance against Confederate cavalry at the T. Ward Farm.

As Menken's men cross the Little Cacapon River, the come under fire from the Churchville Cavalry at T. Ward.

Although tired from fording the river, Menken slowly advances his men towards the enemy. The fire from both sides being ineffective.

As the Ohio men draw closer, Captain Frank Sterret's Churchville Cavalry starts to hit their mark, inflicting some casualties.

As Federal losses started to amount, the Confederates left the cover of the Ward buildings and started to advance towards the enemy.

Seizing the moment, the Churchville Cavalry launched a counter-attack.

The Union cavalry was driven back across the Little Cacapon.

At 5:20 p.m. (Day One) the Ohio Cavalry has returned to the D.Miller Farm and Capt. Sterret's men have returned to T. Ward, awaiting any new orders.
