Springfield Falls to Confederate Cavalry Day 1 - 1:00 p.m.

Around 1:00 p.m. on February 1st 1862 (Day 1), Lieutenant Colonel Ashby and his cavalry entered Springfield after Federal cavalry abandoned the Parker Road Ford and withdrew hastily to the west.  Ashby's men found Lander's Headquarters at Springfield, which were vacated just before the Confederate arrival, which some destroyed documents still smoldering in the fire place.

Brigadier General Lander, his staff and the cavalry that had been at Rannel's Tavern in the morning are reported to be withdrawing towards Frankfort. Ashby's intent is, as of yet, unknown.
