Movement at Three Churches - Day One 1700 - 1720

The opposing sides at Three Churches have left the area of town and moved their lines eastward. The Confederates started a flanking movement up Waddle Hill as the Federal left was already displacing to the rear and left. The Union line then  withdrew down the Old Romney Road to Greenwalt and set up a new defensive position.

The Confederates pursued in two columns, one on the lane to the Waddle Farm, parallel to Old Romney Road, and the other not far behind their Union counterparts. The Confederates deployed with two batteries on the cleared southwest slope of Waddle Hill supported by several infantry regiment and another battery across Old Romney Road at Savile with supporting infantry, identified as Virginia Militia.

All artillery pieces on the field are actively engaged at 17:20.
