Three Churches Contested: Day 7 - Morning

Despite having vastly superior numbers, the Confederates approaching Three Churches on the morning of Day 7 declined to attack the Federal picket line at the A. Hines farm. Instead, they rolled up a three-gun battery and opened fire. (A four-gun battery was also present, but did not join in the shelling.)  For their part, the Union pickets took cover.

The shelling was not highly effective, but the Federals eventually lost several men and retreated to take a position in town. The Confederates have not yet pursued, leaving Three Churches contested on the morning of Day 7 of the campaign.
