Day 7 is over. As darkness settled in, there was a glow in the sky over Frankfort, Sheetz's Mill, and Higginsville as supply depots and supplies burned. Federals are believed to have destroyed their own ordnance depot at Frankfort as they westward retreated from Springfield. Explosions heard from Sheetz's Mill can only be presumed as a raiding party from Ashby's Cavalry. Federals also have burned a commissary depot a Higginsville. Both sides have come into their own in terms of searching for, confiscating, and destroying enemy supply depots.
In the afternoon of Day 7, Federals withdrew from Three Churches, under pressure from a newly arrived Confederate Brigade and battery from the south. The Union forces there have moved westward towards the South Branch River. A small Federal force of infantry, a section of artillery and company of cavalry approached Springfield from the south, but, finding Ashby still there, retreated back towards Hanging Rocks. The exact position of all of Ashby's forces is unknown, but presumed to extend at least to Sheetz's Mill.
That leaves the Confederates in control of Springfield, Romney, Three Churches and Slanesville at the end of Day 7, with the Federals still holding Burlington and Green Spring Depot. This brings the score of the simulation to a tie at 23 points each. Day 8 will determine how the campaign concludes.
